14 May 2023

Kilmora is a plant species native to the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand and is commonly known as Himalayan Raspberry or Nettle-leaf Raspberry. The plant belongs to the genus Rubus, and its scientific name is Rubus ellipticus.

The fruit of the Kilmora plant is edible and has a sweet and sour taste. It is a rich source of Vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants. The fruit is traditionally used by the local people of Uttarakhand to make jams, jellies, and syrups

Kilmode grows wild in the forested areas of Uttarakhand, and the fruit is typically harvested during the summer months, from May to August. During this time, the berries turn deep red and are fully ripe for consumption.

In recent years, there has been increased interest in Kilmode as a potential source of income for local communities in Uttarakhand. Efforts are underway to promote sustainable harvesting practices and develop value-added products to market the fruit to a wider audience.

Apart from its culinary uses, Kilmora berries also have several medicinal properties. They are rich in antioxidants, which help in boosting immunity and protecting against diseases. The berries also have anti-inflammatory properties that can help in reducing inflammation in the body. They are also used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments such as cough, cold, and fever.
